I recently had the opportunity to hit the road with one of the writer’s for the SFA ( http://www.southernfoodways.org/our-work/) and check out some family-run restaurants in the South Carolina. Interesting to say the least, I ate so much food back to back I was bilious. While I have always loved reading Jane and Michael Stern’s books I now can completely empathize with the dilemma of eating multiple country cookin’ meals back to back under the eagle eyes of the cooks that created them! Hurting their feelings is simply unthinkable and so you plow thru the plate of delectable food and then collapse in your scary and unwelcoming hotel room at 3 p.m. only to wake up aching for water and celery sticks!
I really did get to meet some neat people. It was the first time in years that I had gone that many days without baking and cooking! 72 hours! It was painful! I came back on a yeast kick though, I like biscuits and cornbread just fine but they are not BREAD. So I have been making old school bread, Italian bread, salted caramel sticky buns and mucking about in the world of Paleo bread and been having a royal time doing so!
We are happy to announce that we are adding another Farmer’s Market to our line-up-we will be at St. James Plantation on Thursdays now from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. through October and have a few more restaurants that will soon be featuring our desserts-but more about them later!
And last, but not least:
