I admit, we have been busy. Okay to be fair-borderline overwhelmed, and we haven’t opened the retail shop yet!! Regardless of the whirling flour and boatloads of butter we are loving every minute of it! Being able to participate in Farmer’s Markets has long been obsession of mine, so to be able to participate in 3 markets and and online Farmer’s Market is fantastic!
Recently, I got to be a judge in the 2013 NC Blueberry Festival Recipe contest. That was fun and interesting…to say the least! My favorite part though was the feel of it-it felt very state-fair-ish and timeless. It was an honor!
The retail front will be up and running before July 1st (we were Facebooked this picture from some of our favorite customers as they tried to break in while we were out on delivery!) but we have decided to forgo the grand opening party as we just won’t have time-and really, when you are in the business of making pies and brownies and birthday cakes, every day feels like a party!
We also have a new partner in Emerald Isle, http://www.stiritupnc.com/, that is owned by a lovely family and is using a wide range of baked goods in their coffee shop! For an after dinnerdessert, http://kornerstonebistro.com/ in Porter’s Neck has now started carrying our cakes as well! And new on the market front is the https://www.facebook.com/KureBeachMarket happening on Tuesdays-OCEANFRONT!! Are we spoiled or what???
To follow up on the theme of-I am so spoiled-I GOT TO GO PICK SOUR PIE CHERRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( http://www.leveringorchard.com/) I have wanted to do this ever since I read the original Boxcar childen when I was about 6. And, it was everything I thought it would be!! I brought home 50 lbs of tart cherries!! And the orchard was so old and we got to poke around in the old warehouse and see a really beautiful conveyor belt. The pies at the http://carolinabeachfarmersmarket.com/ and the Wrightsville Beach Farmer’s Market on Monday are going to be
extra, super-special!! I have also begun drying some for our Cherry Pecan granola and getting some going for our Moonshine Cherries!
It was a great mini-trip and I dearly love to be able to go to the farms and pick my treasures myself!!
